AbstractArea V1 in the calcarine fissure has been rather under-investigated, but, given its peripheral field representation, it is likely to be specialized for other functions is than foveal V1. Recent investigations (Rockland, SFN 2000) in fact demonstrated direct connections from several parietal regions to calcarine V1. In this report, we identify additional connections from several auditory parabelt regions. In one monkey (M. fuscata), an injection of Fluororuby in area Tpo (dorsal lip of the STS) resulted in moderate but widespread projections to layer 1 of V1 in its anterior 3.0mm. There were also some terminations, and retrogradely labeled neurons, in a small region of dorsally adjoining V2. In the same animal, an injection of BDA in area Tpt resulted in connections to area V2 and, very sparsely, to V1. The connections to V2 were denser than those from Tpo and occurred mainly in layers 1-3, with involvement of other layers. Retrogradely labeled neurons occurred in V2 in layers 3 and 5. The injection in Tpo,...Nov 13, 2001
