From headache to heartache, pain is a universal and vital part of the human experience. So is the drive to avoid it. A typical migraine, for example, is an excruciating event involving a throbbing headache, nausea, and sensitivity to light and sound. Fortunately, pain research offers hope that we will continue to develop the science of alleviating pain without devastating side effects. Evidence also supports the use of alternative actions like yoga and mindfulness as treatments for various pain conditions.
